Penguin Book Cover Competition 2014

This is my almost finished cover for the penguin competition; I looked for visual elements that have survived since the book was published in the 1960's and after exploring speech bubbles, water fountains and cliches, I decided on bottlecaps. I wanted to convey the story in a subtle way; the tower of caps on the front cover is supposed to represent the way in which the author builds tension in the book, until its ultimate and sudden collapse, sprawling the caps over the back cover as well as using the spine to illustrate the caps falling.
